I really don't know why more people don't choose to stay in this area,
because I think that it is one of the most beautiful areas of Gower.
Undulating fields and mature woodlands, stretching downwards, through
nature reserves to salt marshes, sand dunes and Whiteford sands; so
much diversity of plant and bird life and breathtaking views.
Whiteford sands is reached through the small hamlet of Cwm Ivy. A walk
that will take at least three hours can start at the car park in Cwm
Ivy, and progress to Whiteford Lighthouse and then circle back on the
beach to Hills Tor and follow the track back through the nature reserve
to the car park.
One of my highlights from the area was seeing a heron standing in the
road at Landimore - shame it was camera shy!
The church in Cheriton is one of the most beautiful in Gower and is
thought to have been built to replace a church in Landimore (a former
port and weaving village) that was affected by the encroachment of the
sea.
A great place for walkers and orinthologists - you can walk for miles
and not meet another person. |
