Riverside Cottage (the ‘river’, stream more like, now runs in a conduit) forms part of ‘Riverside’ and was originally the stone-built barn attached to the old farmhouse. The building is one of the oldest in the village and dates back to 1742. The ‘barn’ was converted five years ago and it offers a mixture of modern and traditional features with the lounge and bedrooms having exposed beams. It has a cosy but spacious feel and has no shortage of space.

The house is situated in the small sheltered farming village of Middleton, a ten minute walk from the cliffs above the stunningly beautiful wind-swept three mile stretch of Rhossili Bay and at a similar walking distance from Mewslade and Fall Bay.

The interior comprises of kitchen, dining room/lounge, two bedrooms and bathroom.

The kitchen is fully fitted and includes an electric cooker, washing machine, dish washer, microwave and fridge freezer.

The bathroom has a shower over the bath, hand basin and toilet.
The cottage has an oil-fired combi-boiler and full central heating. It also has a wood-burning stove.

There are two bedrooms: one double (with a kingsize bed) and one twin. Each bedroom contains a pine wardrobe and chest of drawers. Bedding and bed linen are provided but visitors need to bring their own towels.

The dining/lounge has a table and chairs, two settees and an armchair, a TV, video, CD-tape-radio and a basket of logs (the first basket is provided free).

Visitors have the use of the courtyard and the secluded area to the right of the main drive. The lawn area of the garden is also available for visitors to use.

Directions

Swansea and then follow Gower signs A4067 along the sea-front, past the University on right and soon after at traffic lights leading to the hospital you turn Right A 4216 and follow this up. At the roundabout (1/4m) take the 2nd exit signposted Camarthen and go straight up over the next traffic lights until you come to a junction with the A 4118 (another 1/4m). Turn left and follow this road some 14 miles until you reach Scurlage. Here take a right turn B 4247 to Rhossili. On reaching Middleton (3 miles) there is one road only on the right with Jessamine Farm house on the left-hand corner together with post box and bus shelter. Turn right up this lane. The next house on the left is Riverside. Riverside Cottage is the first part of the house and has a yellow front door but please come up to the front door of the main house.

Alternative route
Once out of Swansea on the A 4118 you will cross a cattle grid. 200 yards further on fork right onto the B4271 to Llanrhidian and follow this (6 miles?) until you come to another cattle grid just after a small hamlet (Cilibion) with a garage on the left. Fork left off the main road to Llanrhidian and up over Cefn Bryn, a long straight road which gives a lovely view over Gower from the top. Drop down into Reynoldston and follow down past the King Arthur Hotel on the left and through the village. At a T junction in about a mile turn right and rejoin the A 4118 at Knelston. You will then come to Scurlage etc

Riverside, built in 1742 is the second oldest building in Rhossili. Originally a farmhouse, it has been extended and the attached barn is now let separately throughout the year.

Riverside is situated in superb surroundings with Rhossili Down rising on one side and within a ten minute walk of Mewslade and Rhossili Bays with their stunning beaches and rugged cliffs.

The house is a family home and has spacious accommodation. In addition to a beautiful garden with a patio and barbecue for eating outside there is also a large grass area with views to the sea in the distance and ideal for kicking a ball. There is also ample parking space at the back of the house approached by a long driveway.

The conservatory is spacious, light and an ideal place to eat in summer. Leading from it is a small lobby with a Belfast sink and beyond, a cloakroom with toilet, sink and walk-in shower.

The conservatory leads into the large kitchen dining-room. The kitchen which has recently been refurbished is lovely and has both a combi and a main oven. The island has an induction hob. There is also a dishwasher and a large American style fridge/freezer and an instant water heater.

The lounge is the original ground-floor of the 18th Century farmhouse. In addition to the log-burning stove and comfortable seating there is a piano. The front door and lobby are accessible from the lounge.

Beyond the lounge lies the utility room with the oil-fired boiler, a washing machine and drier.

Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms. The children’s bedroom with bunk beds and room for mattresses on the floor if necessary, leads through to a large double bedroom with a sink unit.  The third bedroom is smaller but with two single beds and the fourth bedroom again is large with a double bed and a sink unit.

The bathroom has a shower over the bath and a sink unit. The toilet is separate.

The overall feeling is one of a relaxed but beautiful family home.
