The Gower Peninsula in South Wales was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1956. It was the first place to be assigned this title in the UK. Thankfully, little has changed since that time and you can still appreciate the extreme contrast in topographical makeup from the sprawling, wildlife estuary in North Gower, over the wild moor of Cefn Bryn to the sloping fields, dramatic limestone cliffs and long sandy beaches of South Gower. In fact there are probably not many places where you can see so many natural features squeezed into such a small area.

As a result, the Gower Peninsula is a very popular holiday destination and attracts a large number of visitors every year. They come from all over the world for beach and walking holidays and also the fabulous water-sports.

The Blue Flag status has been awarded to Bracelet Bay, Caswell Bay, Port Eynon and Langland Bay in 2013.

Port Eynon Bay won the Flake 99 Great British Beach Award in 2011, with Rhossili Bay scooping the same award in 2010. Rhossili Bay was also voted to be the best beach in the UK by TripAdvisor in February 2013 and third best in Europe, 10th best in the world in the 2013 Travellers' Choice Beach Awards.
